Kohima: The Forum for Naga Reconciliation-Recover, Restore and Decolonise, known as FNR-RRaD, is pushing for accountability after an ugly confrontation at Nagaland House. Staffers in the RK Puram facility allegedly targeted two professors following a September 15 documentary screening. Tensions boiled over after the Naga Scholars' Association hosted an event showing A Sacred Place, a film by Dolly Kikon.
Kikon and her colleague Sanjay Barbora, both professors at the University of California-Santa Cruz, faced what the FNR-RRaD described as unprovoked and unwarranted aggression. The group claims the staff subjected the academics to disrespect, prejudice, humiliation, and intimidation. They labeled the entire ordeal a complete abuse of power and authority.
The FNR-RRaD stood behind the Naga Scholars' Association as they demand corrective measures from the authorities. The organization issued a firm statement regarding the incident. "Every individual entering the premises of the Nagaland House (must) be treated with respect and dignity," the group said. The investigation into the conduct of the Nagaland House staff remains ongoing.
