Kohima: Naga Club members met Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at his residence Tuesday to push for the construction of their proposed building. The club president, Kuolachalie Seyie, delivered a letter of thanks for the government's ongoing support of Naga culture. The project is a priority. It serves to honor the deep roots and traditions of the Naga people.
Seyie highlighted the club’s history of hospitality, noting that it once operated a free guest house in Kohima. That space fostered lasting brotherhood through simple games like chess and ludo. These bonds bridged gaps between distant villages across the region.
Construction hit a wall in 2025. Procedural hurdles and exhausted state coffers stalled the work, leading to three consecutive rejections of the club’s concept note. Officials cited the war-related situation for the lack of available cash. The club is now angling for assistance from the 16th Finance Commission to get the shovel in the ground.
The team is leaning on pro-bono expertise to keep costs down. CEO of Smart City Er. Kezha Theünuo and architect Richard Belho have signed on to manage the build for free. Seyie said, "The proposed building would serve as a symbol of Naga heritage and inspire future generations." Rio promised the delegation he would help secure the necessary funding to finish the job.
