Kohima: Health officials and local leaders gathered Friday at the Chief Medical Officer's office in Mokokchung. The meeting focused on fixing gaps in routine child vaccination. TATTVA Foundation and UNICEF hosted the event to drive better coordination across the region.
Dr. Takosunep Ao opened the floor by stressing the need for teamwork. He believes every stakeholder plays a vital part in keeping kids safe. Dr. Limanaro then broke down the science behind routine shots and common side effects. She blamed ignorance and low awareness for the current vaccine hesitancy. "Strengthening routine immunisation was not solely the responsibility of the Medical Department, but required the collective efforts of allied departments, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to safeguard the community," Limanaro said.
Wapang Imsong from the TATTVA Foundation laid out the vaccination status for blocks under GAVI intervention. He identified why some children still go unvaccinated. Attendees discussed how groups like the Education Department, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission, and the ICDS can fold immunization support into their daily tasks. Leaders from the Mokokchung Municipal Council, local churches, and various civil society groups also joined the discussion. The DPMU and CMO office staff plan to maintain this pressure to improve overall public health outcomes.
