Aizawl: Mizoram wants out of the Gauhati High Court jurisdiction. Chief Minister Lalduhoma led a meeting this Tuesday where the Mizoram Resource Mobilisation Committee pushed for a dedicated state court. Officials argue this move fulfills long-standing promises made in the Mizoram Peace Accord. It promises faster justice for locals.
Land is already available for the project. Proponents claim a local court will slash logistical spending. The committee stated that the establishment of a dedicated High Court would "not only advance the implementation of commitments made under the Mizoram Peace Accord but would also make judicial services more accessible and efficient for the people of the state."
Fiscal discipline remains the main driver. The government is already trimming its payroll. They cut household peons for Secretariat officers and now plan to reduce orderly personnel for police commanders. These changes aim to save cash and sharpen administrative focus.
The state also plans to overhaul local governance. District Rural Development Offices will likely merge into the offices of Deputy Commissioners. Officials hope these structural shifts will boost local planning. The High Court proposal now heads toward deeper political and legal review.
