Aizawl: Mizoram is making a fresh run at its own High Court. The Mizoram Resource Mobilisation Committee (MRMC) confirmed the plan during a Tuesday meeting led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The state currently relies on the Gauhati High Court for legal matters. Supporters say a local court fulfills the old Mizoram Peace Accord promises.

The push started in 2025. It gained steam this week as the state looks to cut costs and speed up justice. Officials confirmed they already have the land needed for the facility. A separate court should drop administrative expenses over time. Committee members said the move "would fulfil commitments under the Mizoram Peace Accord and improve access to justice."

The state is also hunting for other ways to save cash. They stopped hiring muster-roll peons for top secretariat staff, which already put money back in the budget. Now, they want to limit the number of orderlies assigned to police brass. Future plans include moving District Rural Development Offices under the control of Deputy Commissioners to tighten up government efficiency.
