Aizawl: Mizoram needs its own High Court. The Mizoram Resource Mobilisation Committee reached this conclusion during a Tuesday meeting led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The state currently relies on the Gauhati High Court for legal matters. Establishing a local court would speed up justice and satisfy obligations under the Mizoram Peace Accord.

Officials confirmed that suitable land for the facility is ready. They expect the move to cut long-term government costs. The committee reviewed several ways to tighten the state budget and streamline bureaucracy. They already saved money by slashing the number of household peons assigned to the secretariat. Now, they want to cut the number of orderlies attached to police officers to better use law enforcement staff.

The committee wants to rework how local government functions. They plan to fold District Rural Development Offices into the Planning and Development Wings under deputy commissioners. Regarding the broader effort to fix state operations, an official noted that the committee examined various "administrative and financial reform initiatives aimed at enhancing governance, curbing expenditure and boosting resource mobilisation." Future talks will focus on adding staff to deputy commissioners' offices without breaking fiscal discipline.
