Aizawl: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl claims a massive spike in voter numbers within Chakma-majority districts. The student group alleges a 121.7 percent jump in registered voters since 2005, citing the sudden appearance of 97 new villages on electoral maps. They want the authorities to act now. During a Tuesday press conference in Aizawl, MZP president C. Lalremruata demanded a strict review of the rolls during the current Special Intensive Revision.
The group analyzed data from 195 villages they consider high-risk for illegal immigration. They found voter counts swelled from 43,540 in 2005 to 96,531 this year. Lalremruata pointed to blatant red flags. He noted instances of dual citizenship and entries lacking valid house numbers. The group intends to file a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, pressing for the removal of any illegally registered individuals.
"The student body urged election authorities and booth-level officers to remove individuals illegally enrolled in the electoral rolls," Lalremruata stated. The MZP previously helped purge 10,000 ineligible names back in 1995. Current officials are now playing catch-up. Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii confirmed the revision process continues until June 28. She promised a purge of anyone unable to trace their family records back to 2005. The draft rolls go live on July 4, with a month set aside for objections starting July 5.
