Shillong: Meghalaya kicked off a massive electoral roll cleanup on June 30. Booth Level Officers distributed over 1.19 lakh enumeration forms on the first day alone. The state aims to scrub the rolls clean. This covers more than five percent of the 2.3 million registered voters.
Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari wants precision. He stated the goal is to ensure that “No eligible citizen is left out, while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll.”
A small army of 3,551 officers is hitting the pavement. They have support from 60 registration officers and 410 supervisors. South West Garo Hills leads the state in progress, hitting over 20 percent coverage. East Khasi Hills lags slightly behind but remains a focal point for the rollout.
The rules are simple. No documents are needed right now. Officers will hand out forms in duplicate. They collect one and sign the other. If you are not home, they will leave the paperwork and swing by three more times. The process runs through July 29.
Tiwari also fired a warning shot against double-dippers. He confirmed that action is coming for anyone trying to register in two places. People living near the Assam border are specifically under the microscope. Voters can handle the process online using the ECINET app or the official web portal if they prefer.
