Shillong: Meghalaya kicked off a major push to scrub its voter lists. Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari confirmed that crews distributed over 119,000 enumeration forms on the first day. This covers about 5 percent of the state’s total electorate of 2.3 million people. The work ends July 29.
State officials deployed 3,551 trained Booth Level Officers to handle the legwork. Each officer tracks roughly 662 voters. Support staff includes 60 Electoral Registration Officers and over 100 supervisors. The goal is simple. "The main objective of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out, while no ineligible person is included in the electoral rolls," Tiwari said.
South West Garo Hills moved the fastest, reaching 20 percent of its voters on day one. North Garo Hills followed. East Khasi Hills lags slightly behind. Officials are not asking for documents yet. BLOs leave forms if a house is locked and will swing back three times to collect them.
Voters can also use the ECINET mobile app. Everyone needs a fresh passport-size photo for the form. Tiwari urged residents to help. "Electors are requested to cooperate with the Booth Level Officers during their visits, carefully fill up the Enumeration Forms, and return the completed forms to the BLOs within the prescribed time," he stated.
