Meghalaya Singer Kitkupar Nongsiej Advances to WCOPA Semifinals

Shillong: Kitkupar Nongsiej cracked the semifinals of the World Championships of Performing Arts in Las Vegas. He represents Team India on the global stage. The competition, often called the Olympics of Performing Arts, hosts talent from over 60 countries. Judges pushed him through the preliminary rounds after watching his performances.

Nongsiej hails from Kynshi village in Eastern West Khasi Hills. He climbed the ranks after winning Season 3 of Ka Sur Kynud, a contest held by the Don Bosco Media Network. He also claimed the top spot in Sur Kynud Niam Season 2. His resume includes time with the famous Shillong Chamber Choir and featured spots on Doordarshan performing traditional Khasi folk music. He secured his national team slot by passing a tough international online audition.

His journey mirrors that of Chevinia Lyngdoh Mawnai. She won Ka Sur Kynud Season 1 and later took the UK Vocal Star competition. Before Nongsiej left for the United States, the Don Bosco Youth Centre in Laitumkhrah hosted a send-off. Church leaders, family, and well-wishers attended the prayer service. Organizers noted the prestige of the event, which is "currently being held in Las Vegas, USA."
