Meghalaya SDRF recovers missing person from Wahniangleng River

Shillong: Meghalaya State Disaster Response Force crews pulled a body from the Wahniangleng River near Phra Mer, Mylliem, on July 26. The recovery ended a four-day hunt for a missing Phra Mer resident. The search began July 22 after officials received reports of the disappearance.

SDRF teams worked alongside Mawngap Police and residents from Laitkroh and Phra Mer. They combed deep gorges and deployed a rubber inflatable boat from Mawphlang Dam. Teams searched both upstream and downstream sections on July 23 and 24 but found nothing.

Locals spotted the body in a tight section of the river on July 25. The SDRF tried to reach it, but strong currents and dangerous water levels forced them to stop. The operation restarted early Sunday. According to Additional Public Relations Officer SSL Marshillong, "The search operation resumed early on Sunday morning, and at around 7:10 am, the SDRF team successfully retrieved the body."

Crews handed the remains to Mawngap Police for legal processing after the successful recovery. The Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards confirmed the conclusion of the operation in a press release.
