Shillong: The Meghalaya government hit the reset button on border talks. Officials reconstituted three regional committees to handle the second phase of boundary settlement with Assam. These groups have 45 days to wrap up their reviews of six disputed areas and hand over their findings.

This push follows a March 2022 agreement between the two states. The panels will inspect sites and talk to locals in areas like Langpih and Lapangap-Mukroh. They must verify village records, map out public assets, and document local population data. A government report noted the panels must prepare an "As-Is" Public Asset Register for all infrastructure in the disputed zones.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong leads the Ri-Bhoi team. Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh chairs the West Khasi Hills committee. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar heads the West Jaintia Hills panel. These members will coordinate with Assam officials to finalize site visits. They have the power to add more members if needed to get the job done.
