Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma hosted the Meghalaya Sports Conclave in Shillong this Tuesday. The event brought together local athletes and prominent national sports figures to outline the state’s strategy as it prepares to host the 2027 National Games.

Sangma emphasized that the state government is moving beyond simple stadium construction. The initiative aims to foster a comprehensive sports ecosystem that prioritizes early talent identification and professional training support. By creating clear career pathways for athletes, the government hopes to provide long-term stability for those pursuing professional sports.

During the session, the Chief Minister highlighted the value of learning from established professionals. He noted that the success stories shared by visiting athletes serve as a vital blueprint for the next generation. He said, "The state’s approach is focused not only on infrastructure development such as stadiums and facilities, but also on building a wider sports ecosystem."

The government plans to continue offering guidance to local youth to help them compete at national and international levels. Sangma believes the state’s talent pool possesses immense potential that will thrive with the right support systems in place.
