Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced on May 18 that the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET), originally scheduled for May 29, has been postponed. This decision follows formal appeals from educators currently juggling classroom instruction with government-mandated Census and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) duties. Speaking during an event in the North Garo Hills district, the Chief Minister acknowledged the dilemma faced by teachers who struggled to find adequate time to prepare for the examination amid these concurrent responsibilities. He assured the teaching community that the government will review the situation and announce a new examination date that provides sufficient preparation time for all candidates.

Addressing the broader educational landscape, Sangma noted that while the state has successfully expanded school infrastructure, enhancing the quality of education remains a primary goal. He emphasized that improving standards is a collective effort requiring collaboration between the government, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders. To support the region's development, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new mini stadium in Damas, North Garo Hills.

The stadium project is part of a larger initiative to provide youth with professional platforms to nurture their talent. Sangma reported that the state is currently managing 240 sports infrastructure projects, with an ambitious target to reach 510 completed projects by 2028. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that no district or block is left behind, aiming to provide every young person in Meghalaya with the necessary resources to compete and thrive.
