Shillong: Meghalaya will build a major fisheries cluster to support more than 1,000 local farmers. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma confirmed the plan on July 1. He expects the project to modernize infrastructure and bolster state production. The state government intends to use the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund for the work.
This project relies on outside help. The state will work with the National Fisheries Development Board, NABARD, and Uday Aqua. These partners will handle technical training, market connections, and building support systems for local growers. Sangma said the initiative is expected to "enhance aquaculture infrastructure, improve market access, strengthen production capabilities, and boost the livelihoods of fish farmers across Meghalaya."
The push aims to get fish into more markets. Officials hope to raise living standards for the farmers. The plan covers the entire state. Work starts soon.
