Meghalaya Mandates 30-Day Deadline for Electrical Drawing Approvals

Shillong: The Meghalaya government now requires the Electrical Inspectorate to approve electrical drawings within 30 working days. This rule falls under the Right to Public Services framework. The Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department issued the notification on September 29. They labeled the service as Serial No. 236 under Section 3(2) of the Meghalaya Right to Public Services Act, 2020.

This shift puts clear limits on bureaucratic wait times. Applicants can now track their requests on the state's online portal. For projects in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills, the Deputy Electrical Inspector in Shillong handles the files. Installations in the Garo Hills go to the Deputy Electrical Inspector in Tura. If officials miss the deadline, the Senior Electrical Inspector serves as the appellate authority.

The state government claims this move provides "a defined time frame for disposal of applications instead of leaving the service without a prescribed delivery period." While the Electrical Inspectorate maintains its technical review process, the new mandate ensures statutory accountability.

Separate systems exist for businesses. The investment single-window dashboard lists a 10-day limit for similar approvals. These two frameworks currently operate side by side as the state tries to speed up regulatory clearance for power installations.
