Shillong: Election officials in Meghalaya started a massive update of electoral rolls on Tuesday. Workers fanned out across East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills to distribute over 7,800 enumeration forms. The work spans 898 polling stations in East Khasi Hills alone. Booth Level Officers are knocking on doors to hand out and eventually collect the paperwork. The state aims to finish the entire process by July 29.
West Shillong topped the list in East Khasi Hills with 391 forms issued. Other areas like Pynursla and North Shillong also saw high volume. The workload is heavy. Officials in West Garo Hills pushed out 4,513 forms during the first day of the drive. They already managed to upload 147 completed digital entries to the system.
West Garo Hills currently holds 396,914 registered voters. Women hold the majority here, leading men by 1,141 residents. Phulbari took the lead in the district with 1,147 forms handed out to locals. The government is pushing hard to ensure records are accurate and current.
State administrators stressed the importance of getting these documents back before the deadline. They said, "public participation is essential for preparing updated electoral rolls." Residents now have until late July to finish their forms and help clean up the state voter list.
