Shillong: The South West Garo Hills district administration is making one last push. Officials issued a second public notice demanding landowners clear the way for the 2-lane Tura Bypass Project. The clock is ticking. Residents have exactly 15 days from the publication date to collect their money and hand over their land.
A previous notice appeared in The Shillong Times and Salantini Janera on June 11, 2026. That order gave owners 60 days to finish the paperwork, but that window slammed shut on August 9, 2026. Many property owners already received their funds. The Deputy Commissioner’s office confirms that money moved into bank accounts for those who submitted details on time. Others got paid through electronic transfers during that initial window.
Holdouts must now visit the Office of the Deputy Commissioner in Ampati to claim their payments. They must also relinquish control of the acquired property immediately. The government is not backing down. The notice explicitly warns that "failure to comply could lead to the administration taking possession of the land with police assistance under Section 3E(2) of the National Highways Act, 1956."
Authorities expect immediate compliance to avoid a forced takeover. The district administration urged the remaining affected people to finish these formalities without any more delays.
