Shillong: The Meghalaya High Court shut down the state government's push to revoke bail for Sonam Raghuvanshi. She remains a prime suspect in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. Judges tossed the petition on Monday after ruling the state lacked sufficient grounds to use its inherent powers under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
This decision keeps an earlier Shillong court order intact. That court previously granted bail because police botched the arrest paperwork. Frequent errors in the documents prevented proper communication of charges, which unfairly hurt the defendant's case.
The state has now run out of options within the High Court. If officials want to keep fighting, they must move to the Supreme Court. Defense counsel noted the shift in legal standing after the verdict. "If the state government wishes to challenge this order further, its only legal remedy now is to approach the Supreme Court," the lawyer said.
The government has not said if it will take the case to the top court. Lawyers for Raghuvanshi said any next move belongs solely to the state prosecutors.
