Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma recently spearheaded a CM Connect Public Consultative Meet at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong. Organized by the Department of Urban Affairs alongside the Shillong Municipal Board, the event saw participation from Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, various community leaders, and local citizens. The Chief Minister described the initiative as a vital listening exercise intended to bolster democratic accountability by ensuring governance remains adaptive and responsive to public feedback.

During the session, Sangma introduced the technical framework of the CM Connect system, which features a centralized grievance platform and a 1971 call center. This structure allows the government to monitor and escalate civic complaints efficiently. Plans are already in motion to expand this model through MLA Connect and DC Connect programs, ensuring sustained engagement at the local level. Addressing ongoing challenges in infrastructure, including waste management, water supply, and road maintenance, the Chief Minister urged for collaborative solutions between residents and officials.

The government also highlighted its focus on youth empowerment and inclusive urban development. To foster community participation, the Artist Engagement Scheme was launched, providing financial support to local creators. Furthermore, a new locality grading initiative was introduced to reward the cleanest and most environmentally conscious neighborhoods with cash prizes of up to 12 lakh rupees. These efforts reflect a commitment to integrated planning, which also encompasses preparations for the upcoming National Games with significant upgrades to sports facilities across Shillong, Tura, and Jowai.
