Meghalaya Cricket Association Faces Scandal After Harassment Indictment

Shillong: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women slammed former MCA president Naba Bhattacharjee for ignoring sexual harassment complaints from U-23 cricketers. State officials now face a choice. Will they keep him in government advisory roles or drop him? The state promised zero tolerance for such abuse.

Current MCA president James PK Sangma confirmed the association lost authority over Bhattacharjee. He left the final decision to the state government. Sangma noted the severity of the findings during a press conference. "Whether you are directly responsible or chose to turn the other way and ignore complaints of sexual harassment, these are matters of a very grave nature," Sangma said.

The MCA will report these findings to the North East Cricket Development Committee. Meanwhile, the association is crumbling. Internal infighting between Sangma and suspended secretary Rayonald Kharkamni over bank accounts has left staff without pay for six months. Audits show BCCI cash vanished into thin air. One resort stay for 30 people cost 16.29 lakh rupees. Airline bookings were inflated by over 100 percent.

Kharkamni denies the allegations and blames Sangma for a power grab. The young cricketers who came forward were left with no support. The association continues to bleed money while the two men fight for control. Sangma claims the new season will go on as planned despite the rot.
