Military denies illegal dumping claims in viral video

Shillong: Shillong military officials struck back on Saturday against viral footage showing troops dumping waste in the woods. Wing Commander K Panmei labelled the social media video as misleading. He insisted the clip created a false impression regarding how the base manages its trash.

Personnel were clearing out a secluded jungle area. They dumped dry leaves and tree branches picked up during routine yard work. Panmei stated that the soldiers intended for the garden cuttings to decompose naturally rather than dumping illegal household garbage. He dismissed any suggestion of wrongdoing.

The military stands by its maintenance protocols. Panmei rejected the accusations of illegal dumping outright. "The claim is factually incorrect and misleading," he said. He advised the public to double-check their facts before posting or sharing inflammatory content online.
