Meghalaya Court Halts Job Interviews Following Exam Rigging Claims

Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya hit the brakes on job interviews in West Jaintia Hills this week. Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew issued an interim stay on the Lower Division Assistant and Typist hiring process. Interviews were set to start July 1. The court acted after four rejected candidates filed a petition.

State officials failed to show how they picked the final list. They claim 68 people were chosen for 34 open spots based on overall skill. The court disagreed. Justice Thangkhiew ordered the government to hand over all records by July 21. He wants a full affidavit explaining the mess.

The Voice of the People Party is leading the charge. Spokesperson Londoner Sohtun claims the party has proof of a major scam. He says records show candidates who scored just three or four out of 50 marks made the shortlist for Grade-IV roles. VPP leaders now demand a full CBI probe into the District Selection Committee.

“The findings raise serious doubts over the transparency and credibility of the recruitment process,” Sohtun said. The party wants the government to suspend all ongoing hiring in the district. They argue that political interference ruins the job market. They want the District Selection Committees to operate without outside pressure to keep hiring fair.
