Meghalaya CM Urges Students to Choose Entrepreneurship Over State Jobs

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma sent a blunt message to students in Shillong on Thursday. Government jobs cannot hire the thousands of young people entering the workforce every year. He told them to stop looking for state positions and start building businesses in tourism, agriculture, and tech.

Sangma spoke at the grand opening of a new boarding facility at Pine Mount School. He visited the campus back in 2022 after students complained about dangerous, leaking roofs and broken floors. The administration scrapped the old mess to build a safe, modern space for the residents. "Interacting directly with the students prompted the government to intervene and rebuild the hostel," Sangma said.

The Chief Minister also rolled out his "She Thrives" program at the school. He installed a new sanitary pad vending machine to boost hygiene and confidence for girls. Officials plan to push this initiative out to other schools across the state. Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui joined the Chief Minister for the ceremony.
