Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee blasted the state government on October 4 for stalling on key projects. Secretary Manuel Badwar argued that the state focuses too much on social media optics while real development crawls at a snail's pace. Funds are not reaching the people. Badwar claims projects remain stuck in the pipeline despite regular government hype.
Badwar pointed fingers at the ministers and the state bureaucracy for the lack of action. He argued that ministers lack the technical grasp of their departments and the staff refuses to put in the work. "The social media aspect of it is doing good, but operationally, on the ground, things are moving very slowly and not in the right direction," Badwar said.
Frequent Cabinet reshuffles complicate these issues. Badwar noted that ministers rarely stay in a portfolio long enough to push through meaningful policy. Short stints of one or two years disrupt continuity and keep the administration on the back foot. While he credited Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for securing federal funds, he warned that money often goes back unspent. He insisted that the true test of governance remains whether the poorest families actually get stronger.
