Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma toured New Shillong on Tuesday to inspect major infrastructure projects. He directed officials to speed up construction while maintaining strict quality standards. The review included the new Secretariat Complex, the Unity Mall, and the Sports Complex at Umsawli. The Chief Secretary and Urban Affairs Department officials joined the inspection.
The Secretariat will consolidate government departments into one hub. It aims to improve administrative efficiency and public services. The Unity Mall intends to provide a marketplace for weavers, entrepreneurs, and local artisans. Officials expect the mall to drive tourism and create local jobs. The Umsawli Sports Complex is meant to turn Meghalaya into a regional sporting powerhouse. Sangma emphasized that these sites are essential for the state's economic future.
"The projects being developed in New Shillong are laying the foundation for Meghalaya’s future," Sangma said. He added that investments in modern infrastructure will raise the quality of life for all citizens. Agencies must ensure close coordination and safety on all sites. The Chief Minister expects the work to wrap up on schedule to provide immediate benefits to the public.
