Shillong: The Meghalaya Cabinet gave the green light to regularise 38 ad hoc employees on Tuesday. These workers held sanctioned government posts dating back to December 31, 2007. The move ends years of uncertainty for these staff members.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma broke the news following the cabinet meeting. He told reporters, "We have approved the regularisation of services of 38 ad hoc employees who were appointed on or before 31 December 2007 against sanctioned government posts."

The state government based its decision on a Supreme Court framework designed for one-time regularisation. Officials struggled to find original paperwork for the old appointments. They dug through treasury records, tracked salary payments, and verified official certifications to confirm the workers were legitimate. This process allowed the state to move forward despite the missing sanction orders.

Sangma described the move as a push to clear a backlog of old personnel files. He said these 38 people are the latest beneficiaries of a government effort to settle appointment cases in a fair and transparent manner.
