Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh will distribute Rs 104 crore in welfare benefits to 1.2 lakh residents on July 20. The rollout follows a two-week sprint where officials cleared 99.9 percent of pending documentation. Workers ensured residents secured the necessary Aadhaar cards, income certificates, and ration cards to qualify for state support.

The package targets the state's most vulnerable groups. The Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme leads the effort, covering over 107,000 elderly citizens. Widows and single women will also receive financial aid through targeted monthly pension programs and the Ima Nungthang Leima Scheme. These initiatives provide cash for basic needs, housing, and social security.

Social Welfare Department Director Sheikh Abdul Hakim explained the scope of the project in Imphal. "The upcoming distribution would directly benefit over 1.2 lakh vulnerable individuals across the state through various targeted social security schemes," he stated. Beyond direct cash transfers, the department is pushing for better disability identification. Officials are running medical camps to help citizens obtain their Unique Disability ID cards, which open doors to scholarships and grants.

The department currently manages 22 distinct sub-schemes backed by central funding. These include child nutrition programs at 2,400 Anganwadi centers and legal protection for minors via Mission Vatsalya. The state also maintains 47 Shakti Sadan centers for domestic violence victims and 51 hostels for working women. Officials remind those in immediate danger to call the toll-free 181 Women Helpline for help.
