Manipur Police Nab Trio Linked to Serial Grenade Attacks

Imphal: Manipur police grabbed three alleged cadres of the outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak on June 29. The arrests followed a tip-off at Sawombung in the Lamlai district. Officers identified the suspects as 24-year-old Sorokhaibam Rohit Meitei, 20-year-old Salam Yaiphaba Meitei, and one juvenile.

The trio stands accused of throwing hand grenades at residential properties throughout Imphal East and Imphal West. Investigations trace the violence back to an FIR filed at Porompat Police Station. Police claim the men took a delivery of six grenades from an underground handler to fuel their spree.

The gang hit the home of Khurailatpam Bhavananda Sharma in Brahmapur twice, striking on June 10 and again on June 25. Those blasts wrecked the property and sparked loud sit-in protests from neighbors. Police recovered the final, unexploded grenade and two scooters used to flee the scenes.

Authorities have remanded the two adults to police custody. The juvenile suspect appeared before the Juvenile Justice Board. Officers are hunting for more members of the network. A police official stated, "Further investigation is underway to identify and trace other members of the alleged network involved in the attacks."
