Imphal: Manipur Police has launched a new barcode-based E-Malkhana system to manage case properties and physical exhibits. The initiative seeks to improve how evidence is stored, tracked, and retrieved throughout the legal process.
Authorities first implemented the system at the Irilbung Police Station in the Imphal East district. Under this new method, every seized item receives a unique barcode that connects directly to its corresponding case record.
These barcodes store essential data including FIR numbers, descriptions of the property, case statuses, and relevant legal provisions. The system also archives photographs and records regarding the final disposal of items. Officials state this digital linkage will speed up investigations and court proceedings while better preserving physical evidence.
This digital documentation aims to foster greater transparency and accountability across station administration. The transition is part of a larger push by the state to modernize police work through scientific methods and improved evidence handling.
