Imphal: Manipur security forces and local police have arrested three women accused of attempting to sell roughly 60 defused hand grenades. The suspects, identified as 60-year-old Hajara Bibi, 38-year-old Ibem, and 50-year-old Imem, were intercepted in the Chingamakha Phuramakhong area of Imphal West following intelligence reports that they were offering the decommissioned materials to a scrap dealer.
A joint team from the Singjamei Police Station worked with forensic experts to recover a sack weighing 20 kilograms. Officials confirmed the items were inactive, stating the explosives had been "rendered inactive, with detonators and explosive substances already removed."
In unrelated counter-insurgency operations, authorities apprehended two members of banned organizations. Security personnel near the Indo-Myanmar border arrested 28-year-old Khoirakpam James Singh, a member of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, near Border Pillar No. 76. Separately, police in Imphal East detained 43-year-old Haobijam Haridas Singh, an operative linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibangnganba), near the JNIMS main gate.
All five individuals remain in custody as police continue to investigate the illicit supply chains and insurgent networks operating across the state.
