Imphal: Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to hash out the state's security and future stability. The meeting comes as pressure mounts over demands to update the National Register of Citizens before the national Census. Agitators under the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation banner are currently running a No NRC, No Census movement.
Konthoujam posted about the meeting online. He described having a "substantive interaction" with Shah regarding the state and the path toward peace. Shah claimed the government understands the concerns of Manipur's people and will address them. Still, the meeting lacked hard promises on the 1951 base year demand or a specific timeline for NRC updates.
The Centre already delayed the Census in Manipur due to these protests. State officials acknowledge they cannot launch the NRC process without green lights from the Indian government. Konthoujam told the Assembly earlier this month that the state intends to follow its own resolutions while pushing the Centre for action. He remains focused on building a stronger, more secure Manipur.
