Kohima: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla arrived at Dzukou Valley on Tuesday. Local leaders gave him a traditional welcome at Viswema. Officials including Kohima DC B. Henok Buchem and SP Krodi Rhetso met the Governor before his trek. A team of police, medical staff, and guides joined him for the trip. Security agencies managed the route to ensure the visit went off without a hitch.
Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) president Tepul Hopovi greeted the Governor at the site. He stressed the need for community led conservation to protect the valley. SAPO has acted as the traditional custodian of the area for generations. Hopovi wants the valley to become a model for climate resilience. He stated, "The Southern Angami people have served as its traditional custodians since time immemorial."
The organization gifted the Governor a traditional memento to mark the occasion. Hopovi urged officials to blend indigenous knowledge with government policy to save the ecosystem. He specifically pointed to the Dzukou Lily as a sign of the valley's fragile wealth. The group thanked the Nagaland government for coordinating the logistics of the visit.
