Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met with the Rajya Sainik Board on July 10 at Lok Bhavan in Imphal. The group focused on fixing welfare gaps for the state's 7,627 registered veterans and their families. They plan to build a new Sainik Rest House and office complex. New staff will also join to reach more veterans in the districts.
The Governor promised total state backing for those who served. He said, "The government would extend all possible assistance for the welfare of ex-servicemen at both the state and national levels." Officials want to ensure that benefits reach every eligible veteran.
Veterans currently rely on the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme for medical care. Polyclinics across the region offer cashless treatment. The state also holds pension adalats and military rallies to fix pay issues and hand out gear like motorized wheelchairs. Children of war widows receive scholarships to help cover school costs. State departments and the military also offer agricultural advice and business loans to help vets find work after they leave the service.
Top officials joined the meeting to map out these upgrades. The Chief Secretary, the Commissioner for Home, and the General Officer Commanding of the 57 Mountain Division attended the talks. Representatives from Imphal East, Imphal West, and Churachandpur also sat in to review the state's veteran programs.
