Imphal: A delegation from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee visited villages along the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong District today to provide relief following recent attacks by suspected insurgent groups. Led by party leadership, the team toured Ashang Khullen, Namlee, and Wanglee Market. Plans to visit Choro village were abandoned due to heavy rain and poor road conditions.

Working President Victor Keishing stated the visit aimed to assess the needs of residents who serve as the nation's frontline defenders. He criticized the government for neglecting the area, pointing to a lack of basic infrastructure such as electricity, healthcare, and reliable mobile networks. He noted that the travel time for a 40-kilometer stretch is currently six to seven hours, which he described as unacceptable.

MLA Okram Surjakumar noted that the current infrastructure failures contrast with previous efforts to improve trade routes into Myanmar. He highlighted that villagers are facing ongoing security threats, including constant gunfire from across the border, and are demanding a stronger presence from state security forces. Residents also requested better educational facilities and the construction of new bridges.

Former Minister Khumujam Ratankumar said the visit was initiated by party president and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh to offer support to those caught in the cycle of violence. The delegation urged the Manipur Home Minister to visit the region and address these urgent grievances to ensure the safety and welfare of border residents.
