Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh emphasized the necessity of peace and inclusive development for the state’s progress during an interactive session with beneficiaries of the Post-Matric Scholarship (ST) scheme. The event, held at Hotel Imphal as part of the Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026, honored the legacy of tribal leader Birsa Munda and his contributions to the empowerment of tribal society.
Addressing reports that some students had not received payments for four months, the Chief Minister clarified that funds had already been released. He attributed the delays to technical issues involving Aadhaar and bank account linkages and directed officials to resolve these problems immediately to ensure students receive their benefits.
The Chief Minister underscored that the state could only thrive if all 36 communities in the hills and valleys developed in unison. He pointed out that students and daily wage earners suffer the most during periods of unrest, arguing that constructive dialogue is the only path toward achieving lasting peace. He urged students to act as ambassadors for harmony across different communities.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, participating via video conference, highlighted the role of education in empowering tribal youth. She described the scholarship scheme as a critical support system that helps students pursue their academic aspirations. Students from districts including Churachandpur and Kangpokpi raised concerns regarding stipend amounts and implementation, which the Chief Minister promised to review.
The session was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Director of Tribal Affairs and Hills Rangnamei Rang Peter, and various departmental officials.
