Manipur BJP Boss Shoots Down Calls for Separate Administration

Imphal: Manipur BJP president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi says the party will never allow a separate administration in the state. She insists the central leadership is locked in on keeping the current territorial lines exactly where they are. The Rajya Sabha MP spoke up while bringing former IRS officer Gaigongdin Panmei into the party ranks.

The state is still bleeding. Ethnic fighting has dragged on, hurting growth and making daily life a nightmare for locals. Sharda admitted the public is fed up and some people blame the BJP for the mess. She waved those critics off. She argued that the party is focused on unity, despite the bad optics on the ground.

Sharda shot down claims that the BJP acts as a communal group. She pointed to the elevations of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Droupadi Murmu as proof of a broad tent. Sharda asked the people to stick with the party, claiming that political stability remains the only way forward for Manipur. "The BJP's central leadership remains firmly committed to safeguarding Manipur's territorial integrity," she said.

The newest recruit, Panmei, served as a top official at the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. Sharda expects his move from the civil service to politics will give the party more muscle in the 53-Tamenglong Assembly Constituency. She wrapped up the event with a plea for dialogue and peace across all communities to fix the state.
