Manhunt underway after fatal stabbing in South West Khasi Hills

Shillong: A 62-year-old man stabbed his sister to death Tuesday morning in Pyndenumsaw village. He fled the scene. The village sits 15 kilometers from Mawkyrwat in the South West Khasi Hills. Police identified the suspect as Bailing Wahlang. He allegedly attacked 56-year-old Snity Wahlang at 6:30 AM.

Snity Wahlang was a mother of six, including four girls and two boys. Locals witnessed Bailing carrying a knife following the attack. He stabbed her multiple times with a sharp weapon. The motive is unknown, but residents point to a possible property dispute.

Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital staff alerted police after the victim arrived dead with fatal wounds. Women police personnel confirmed the injuries. Officials performed a spot inquest and moved the body for a post-mortem exam. The Crime Scene Unit and local police secured the area with assistance from the village secretary and eyewitnesses.

Authorities registered a case at the Mawkyrwat Women Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Law enforcement is actively searching for the suspect. Police stated that "the accused fled after committing the crime and remains absconding while a manhunt continues to trace him."
