Guwahati: Majuli Police torched 115.919 kilograms of ganja on Saturday. The drugs went up in smoke at the Majuli Brick Field in Boritika. Officers recovered the stash during raids in the Dakhinpat-Kumargaon area and Perabhari village. The destruction process followed strict environmental and legal rules.

The District Level Drug Disposal Committee oversaw the operation. Senior police officials watched as the contraband burned to ensure it never hits the streets again. This destruction marks the end of the legal process for these specific cases.

Police are keeping the pressure on. Officers in Assam have ramped up raids and surveillance to fight back against drug trafficking. "The disposal of the seized ganja reflects the district’s continued efforts to curb drug trafficking and prevent confiscated narcotics from re-entering the illegal market," police said in a statement.

Authorities expect citizens to help. They want people to flag drug activities to local law enforcement immediately. Steady enforcement remains the goal for Majuli police.
