Shillong: Residents of Dorbar Shnong Majai-Bholaganj rejected the removal of acting Sordar Balajied Iawbor this week. The trouble started August 1 when Acting Chief Mynjurlang Majaw of Hima Sohra fired Iawbor. The Hima claims Majai is private property under a 1996 White Paper deal. That deal followed land transfers from the late Freeman Sing Syiem.
Villagers held a meeting Saturday to formally oppose the order. They argue the Hima bypassed proper protocol. Village secretary Daminot Sohtun questioned the heavy-handed tactics used by the administration. He demanded to know why officials ignored the standard process for staff discipline. "Why has the Acting Chief given a direct termination? Balajied Ïawbor should have been served with a show-cause notice if he was acting against the Sanad," Sohtun said.
Locals claim the move threatens indigenous rights. They plan to take their complaint to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council. Pressure is mounting. The controversy forced Challenge Rajee, an Executive Member of the Dorbar Hima Sohra, to quit his position in protest. The standoff continues.
