Longleng Schools Tackle Gender-Based Violence in Awareness Drive

Kohima: Longleng students and staff gathered at the Lighthouse School Complex on September 10 to confront gender-based violence. The session drew 790 attendees, including teachers and non-teaching staff from Bautung Government Higher Secondary School. Representatives from GMS Station, GPS Shauli, and GPA Nyengching also attended. It was a massive turnout.

District Child Protection Officer Ketobu Vitsu led the training. He serves as the SRGBV chairman for the district. The event covered the definition of school-related violence and how to stop it. Speakers explained safe reporting, consent, and personal boundaries. They also detailed legal frameworks like the JJ Act, the POCSO Act, and the POSH Act.

"The sessions aimed to raise awareness on SRGBV and promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment," organizers noted. Experts shared advice on equality and the specific duties of parents and students.

The lineup of speakers included SDPO Longleng N. Abel Kikon and PSC president C. Shame Phom. Staff from the Child Helpline, Achung N. Phom and Metlen Phom, addressed the group alongside teacher counsellor Longkoi S. A final question and answer session allowed the crowd to clarify concerns. The gathering focused on building safer schools through better reporting and stronger community support.
