Left-Wing Groups Protest ADC Hiring Practices in Agartala

Agartala: Left-affiliated groups Ganamukti Parishad and the Tribal Students’ Union swarmed the Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala on Monday. They staged a sit-in to rail against alleged illegal appointments within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. The protesters want those jobs scrapped immediately.

They want a fair hiring process. The groups argue that systemic failure to fill vacancies hinders daily administration and hurts the delivery of vital public services. They demand transparency for all open roles.

The demonstrators also pushed for the swift passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill. Supporters say this legislation protects the rights and self-governance of tribal areas. Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury addressed the crowd to highlight the lack of government action.

"Transparent recruitment to important posts in the ADC and stronger constitutional rights and safeguards were needed," Chaudhury said. He noted that despite repeated calls for reform, the authorities have ignored their grievances. The protest ended with calls for a full review of all council staffing.
