Guwahati: The Bhumi Adhikar Joutha Sangram Samiti is pushing back. They demand the immediate release of Pranab Doley following his arrest by Assam police. Doley leads land rights campaigns across the state. The committee claims the government is systematically targeting activists to clear the way for corporate interests.
Doley serves as the convener for the Bhumi Adhikar Joutha Sangram Samity and the Greater Kaziranga Land and Human Rights Protection Committee. His allies say his detention follows a growing pattern of state suppression against those defending local communities. They point to the recent arrest of Adit Chandra Rabha as proof of this trend.
The group’s leaders, Shantanu Borthakur, Gobinda Rabha, Krishna Gogoi, and Subrata Talukdar, signed the formal statement of protest. They argue that the government is choosing big business over public rights. The committee noted, "The only crime of Pranab Doley was that he joined the struggle to protect the land of 45 Adivasi families in Kaziranga and campaigned against large corporations."
The group warns the government must stop the harassment of democratic voices. They want an end to these arrests now. The state faces increasing pressure to justify its actions against these land rights leaders.
