Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) wants the month-long blockade on National Highway-2 finished now. The group sent a formal plea to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. Residents are hurting. Essential goods like food and medicine cannot reach Kangpokpi district.
Naga groups set up the blockade after six community members were killed. They want justice. The protest hits four spots: Namdilong-Kanglatongbi, Chawangkining, Taphou Naga, and Yaingangpokpi. These locations choke off the area. Nearly 1.95 lakh people, including Kuki-Zo, Gorkha, Poumei, and Thangal communities, face severe shortages. CoTU warned that the "continued blockade and disruption of supply chains could further worsen the humanitarian situation in Kangpokpi" without quick action.
CoTU also demanded a crackdown on the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah). They claim the group makes the law and order situation worse. Police boundaries cause chaos too. CoTU wants the government to redraw borders between Kangpokpi, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Senapati districts. Officials say this realignment will stop future administrative fights and help police do their jobs.
