Imphal: The Kuki-Zo Council wants a Union Territory with a legislature. The group set an October 10 deadline for the government to address the status of Kuki-Zo bodies currently held at the Churachandpur District Hospital. Failure to act will trigger protests. The council expects a response.
Leaders gathered at Hotel LNC in Kangpokpi for a six-hour consultation themed Unity, Consultation, Progress. The Committee on Tribal Unity organized the session. KZC Joint Secretary Douminlal Haokip moderated the event. KZC Vice Chairman Yanglet Haokip welcomed attendees, while Chairman Henlenthang provided the keynote address. The meeting included MLAs, tribal bodies, civil society groups, academics, and church leaders from multiple districts.
Henlenthang confirmed that similar meetings took place in Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, and Chandel. These sessions aim to bridge internal gaps and finalize political goals. The council maintains its support for existing political talks with the Kuki National Organisation and the United People's Front. Regarding the hospital situation, Henlenthang warned of escalating measures if the state stalls. He stated, "If nothing happens by October 10, we will intensify our movement by organising protests, dharnas and other forms of agitation."
