Imphal: Gunmen swarmed K. Songlung Part II on June 25. The assault left village chairman Shemkholal Haokip injured. Alleged militants from the NSCN (IM) and ZUF (K) groups pushed into the village from Waphong Inthan. The village was defenseless. Soldiers from the 19 Assam Rifles finally pushed the attackers back.

This marks the third time the village has been hit this year. Attackers torched five homes and a vehicle back in January. Mob violence followed in March. The Kuki Chief Union stated: "This was the third major attack on K. Songlung Part II this year."

The union blasted central security forces for ignoring the sector. They claim units like CoBRA spend too much time policing Kuki-Zo areas instead of stopping the Waphong Inthan threats. Memories remain raw in the region. Three pastors were murdered near that same village in May.
