Imphal: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has temporarily suspended a district-wide shutdown after holding productive discussions with government officials. While the protest is on hold, the organization maintains that it remains fully committed to its core demands for justice and security.

The group voiced significant frustration regarding the lack of progress following the May 13, 2026, killings of three Thadou-Kuki church leaders. KIM noted that authorities have failed to identify or arrest any suspects more than two weeks after the incident. They also pointed to the ongoing detention of 14 Kuki-Zo individuals in Senapati district, stating that repeated appeals for their release have been ignored.

KIM officials argued that the government handles cases involving the Kuki-Zo community with less urgency than other matters, which has fueled widespread mistrust. The organization is now calling on the Indian government to fast-track these investigations and ensure the detained individuals are released.

Beyond immediate justice, the group reiterated its push for formal political dialogue with Suspension of Operations (SoO) signatories to establish a lasting political settlement. Although the shutdown has been paused to allow for administrative progress, KIM warned that it will resume or intensify protests if the authorities fail to take meaningful, visible action.
