Imphal: Armed militants allegedly swarmed Leikot Kuki Village in Manipur’s Noney district early Thursday morning. The assault began at 5:00 a.m. and left homes burning. Kuki Inpi Jiribam, Tamenglong and Noney claims suspected NSCN-IM fighters carried out the raid.

Local volunteers tried to fight back. They used licensed single-barrel firearms against the intruders. The militants brought automatic weapons and mortar shells. The volunteers retreated, leaving the attackers to torch the village buildings. No security agencies have verified these accounts or provided a response yet.

The tribal apex body blasted the security failures in Noney. They want the Central and Manipur governments to start a probe now. They described the incident as a serious threat to peace and security, adding that it is a direct act of aggression against civilians. The group demanded that officials identify the culprits and hold them to account.

Authorities must boost defenses in vulnerable areas. The organization warned that ignoring these grievances will only spike tensions in the region. They pledged to protect the rights and dignity of the Kuki community while pushing for justice.
