Kuki community rallies against Meitei resettlement in Manipur

Imphal: Hundreds of Kuki community members marched in Saikul on Sunday. They gathered under the Kuki Inpi Saikul banner to block a government plan. Officials want to move displaced Meitei families into the Dolaithabi area.

Protesters filled the streets with signs and chants. They argued the state ignored ground realities in Manipur. The area has seen deep ethnic friction since May 2023. Locals claimed the government moved too fast. They say officials failed to talk with the people living there.

Speakers told the crowd that peace requires more than administrative orders. They demanded a system built on consensus. One protest leader insisted that any framework must include all sides, saying, "any resettlement framework should be bilateral and based on mutual agreement."

The group warned that forced moves will only stir more trouble. They chanted for justice before peace. Organizers claimed they support reconciliation, but only if it treats every group with equality. The rally stayed peaceful until the end.
