Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) claims militants burned two Kuki-Zo villages to the ground. Armed cadres from the NSCN-IM and the Kamson faction of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF-K) allegedly torched Lengluong and Teikhang on July 15. The attack happened around 3 pm in the Nungba sub-division of Tamenglong district. Ash remains. It marks the fifth time a Kuki-Zo village in the area has been targeted in two weeks.
CoTU issued a statement on July 16 condemning the violence. The group stated, "five Kuki-Zo villages in the sub-division have come under attack during this period and accused the NSCN-IM led by Thuingaleng Muivah and the ZUF (Kamson) faction of carrying out the assaults." They claim these incidents are part of a larger pattern of hostility reaching into Kamjong and Ukhrul districts.
The tribal organization blasted Nungba MLA Dinganglung Gangmei, also known as Dipu Gangmei, for staying quiet. They claim local representatives abandoned their people by refusing to intervene. According to the committee, "Their silence speaks volumes." CoTU wants the Government of India and the Manipur government to act now. They demand immediate, tough measures against armed groups operating in the region. No officials, including the NSCN-IM or the ZUF-K, have responded to the accusations.
